ANIMAL ISLAND

ANIMAL ISLAND
(Wilde)

Far far away at the end of the world
There is a land that belongs to animals
Among the birds and the bees and the flowering trees
Animals of every variety

Tortoises, chipmunks, squirrels and goats
Moose and mice and colorful toads
Rabbits and rhinoceros hopping through the fields
Horses and zebras sharing grassy meals

Hippopotamus and beaver play together in the pond
Camels and donkeys share a brotherly bond
From the elephant down to the chimpanzee
They all get along in harmony

One day some sailors spied the land
And dropped an anchor in the sand
They came ashore and looked around
And this is what they found

Giraffes munching leaves at the tops of the trees
While buffalo grazed down around their knees
The trees were loaded with nuts and fruit
All around were edible plants and roots

It was nothing they had ever seen before
They sent for the captain to come ashore
The captain came ashore and rubbed his eyes
He said “I’ve discovered paradise”
This would be the best of all possible worlds
If we could just get rid of all these animals
They’re not too smart, not very funny
We have to find out where they’re hiding all their money

And so the sailors looked around
But no money could be found
They said it must be underground
We’ll turn this island upside down

Elephants started moving forward in a row
And the sailors said “it’s time to go
We’ll come back with machinery to clear the trees
And an army to help maintain the peace”

So they climbed aboard their ship and sailed away
Vowing to return in a matter of days
They searched the ocean from end to end
But they never found the land again

The legend spread from town to town
But the Animal Island could never be found
Some say a magic spell sent down from the skies
Made the place invisible to human eyes

An old wives tale others will say
But the animals thrive to this very day
And late at night at night on the open seas
You can hear this tune floating on the breeze
Animal Island
