PLATYPUS

PLATYPUS
(Clarke / Wilde)

Fabulous
So Marvelous
Platypus that’s us
It’s astonishing
Your jaw is dropping
Your eyes are popping out copping a look (take a look at me)
There’s no stopping me
There’s no topping me
Cause there’s no fathoming me or what I am

I’m one of nature’s
Most remarkable creations
Scientists thought they were victims of a hoax
They were disbelievers
Was I otter duck or beaver?
Or some mad taxidermist’s idea of a natural practical joke?
But I’m platypus
And that’s quite marvelous
Platypus that’s us

I’m from East Australia
Got cousins in Tasmania
But I’m not your cute koala, kangaroo, wallaby wannabe (I wanna be me)
I don’t jump or bite or punch or climb
But I can sting like a bee if you disturb me
Annoy me, bother me or get in my way

And I’m fabulous
And that’s quite marvelous
It’s inconceivable, almost mythical
Strange, extraordinary, quite improbable
Duck-billed, beaver-tailed, egg-laying mammal
You probably won’t believe it so I’ll spell it out for you
P-L-A-T-Y – puss platypus

Ornithorhynchus Anatinus – that’s Latin for Platypus – and that’s us!
