Summer Lullaby
(Wilde)
The carnival barkers went home for the night
They shut down the rides and they unplugged the lights
They’re counting the tokens and sweeping the floor
Tomorrow the winners will be back for more
The jugglers have packed up their dishes and balls
The carousel horses are back in their stalls
The big Ferris wheel sits still in the sky
The cars at the top gently rocking side to side
The zookeeper walked through his last evening rounds
To make sure that the monkeys were all lying down
He said goodnight to the elephants, bears and gazelles
The turtles are tucked away safe in their shells
The camels are snoring alongside the llamas
The leopards are wearing their spotted pajamas
A night owl is whistling a lullaby tune
To a yawning sleepy baboon by the light of the moon
Goodnight my darling, sweet dreams little one
We played all day long and we had so much fun
Now it’s time to lie down and drift into a dream
In a tiny rowboat on a whispering stream
Tomorrow will bring us another fine day
We’ll get up in the morning go outside and play
I look out your window up into the night
The stars are twinkling bright
My darling goodnight
